Itchy sweater, stains on the new shoes, broken zippers – you’ll no longer encounter any of these annoying problems. Because there are enough simple and easy tricks on how to avoid them. And we are about to share them with you!
The perfect sweater
Avoid fibre pulling and fuzz balls forming on your sweater by putting it in the freezer for the night. Leave the cashmere or wool sweaters in the freezer every time before you wear them.
How to get rid of unpleasant smells
To eliminate strong smells from your clothes spray a small amount of vodka. We all have days when only the shirt we wore yesterday brings out our charms quite so well and nothing else in the wardrobe will do! If there’s a problem with the shirt, try this easy trick. Alcohol kills the bacteria that causes the unpleasant smell.
How to get rid of foundation stains on clothes
Cover the stains left by your foundation with a bit of shaving foam. Then put your piece in the washing machine and rest assured that the collar will be white again.
How to get rid of lipstick stains
Use hairspray to remove lipstick stains. If your item can be dry-cleaned, spray a bit on the stain and leave for a few minutes. Tap the stain a few times and throw in the washing machine.
Another tip, use hairspray to stop ladders running on stockings. If you are in a hurry or just don’t have a spare pair of stockings, and a dreadful ladder is already running down, spray well the end of the ladder with hairspray or cover with clear nail polish. Bear in mind that this sticks to the material a bit too well and sometimes even washing can’t remove it. Also, after washing the nail polish leaves whitish traces, whereas the hairspray stays invisible.
How to clean suede shoes
Remove stubborn stains from suede shoes with a nail file. Simply polish them.
How to remove stains from leather shoes
Brush away the stains on leather shoes with soft brush and vinegar. If your boots are ruined by water, snow, salt or all of these, soak a soft toothbrush in apple vinegar and gently brush the stain away.
How to keep patent leather shoes in perfect condition
If there’s a stain, cover it with a cotton ball and vaseline.
Breathe new life into scratched or worn-out shoes
Brighten up the leather of the scratched shoes with moisturiser. If you don’t have specialized shoe cream at hand (which is normally the case), take a towel and cover them with moisturising body lotion. If the lotion has a nice fragrance, it would be perfect. Yet, don’t have any illusions that the nice smell on the outside will reach the inside too!
Cover the stitch of a loose button with clear nail polish. This will temporally stop the threads from loosening any further.
Tighten the loosen hinge of your sunglasses with a drop of clear nail polish (clear nail polish is a key tool in life hacks, so always have some at hand – a mini bottle in your handbag and a big one at home!). Just keep in mind that this is a temporary solution and if you like your sunglasses, take it to an optician to have it fixed when possible.
Keeping bra underwires in place
Fix the sticking underwires with a bit of adhesive tape. Just don’t forget about it! Let it be your little secret.
How to get rid of grease stains
Use the washing-up liquid to remove grease stains from delicate clothes. The liquid is strong enough to clean the stains and gentle enough to not damage the material.
Fixing stuck zipper
Fix the zipper with a cotton bud and a vaseline – smear it well on both sides and try moving it up and down.
How to get rid of sweat stains
You can eliminate the unpleasant sweat stains with lemon juice or baking soda. Rub a mixture of lemon juice and water on the stain. If the stains are stubborn to try rubbing them with a paste of baking soda and water. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse it well before putting in the washing machine.
How to prevent stinking trainers
Sprinkle a bit of baking soda in your trainers after exercising to soak in the sweat and eliminate the smell.
